Yona is very adaptable, has a sweet demeanor, and has a strong sense of conviction. On her journey, she shows an absolute willingness to learn, but she can still be idealistic even if she realizes that something is harder than it sounds. She can be selfish and demanding of others in her pursuits, which is first noted when Yoon scolds her for not thanking him for taking care of Hak.[6] She does, however, constantly show appreciation of others through her travels.
When she was still living in Hiryuu Castle, Yona was ignorant and oblivious to everything happening around her and only cared about herself or her love. She didn't take the initiative to know the events unfolding around her country despite being a princess. Because of this she is struck by the hard truth of people hating her father and his leadership, also the fact her father was a coward that deeply loathes weapons and violence, as well as how ignorant she had been of her duty when she was chased out from her home. To compensate for her lack of concern for her citizens and to protect the place her father once protected, she vowed to mend the conflicts within Kouka little by little. With her sincerity to this oath, she manages to sway and surprise others to the point that they can’t help but support her regardless of the risks. It is also the reason why she can perform certain feats in spite of her previously hardship-free lifestyle, such as standing up to several armed soldiers or scaling a dangerous cliff for a rare herb. Additionally, these kinds of threats don’t scare her anymore because she thinks that there is nothing scarier than what she witnessed on the night of her birthday.
One of her biggest gags throughout the series is her tendency to say things that can easily be misunderstood or thought of in a romantic nature. Hak usually tends to take the brunt of the humiliation when he expects more, but is also the most used to it. Thus, Yona is very dense when it comes to romantic or intimate situations. Whether it's because of her very strong dedication to Soo-Won since childhood or the experience of Tae-Jun's courting, Yona does not notice when others seem to be attracted to her. Ironically enough, she does understand the adult interactions between men and women, as shown when she says that even Hak needs some time to fool around with girls.

she has warmed my heart eternally and has given me so many smiles. she is so cute and genuine.. i have never seen someone so sweet and compassionate before. and seeing her development over the course of the manga (and anime) brings me to tears. yona has gone through so much yet she handles herself so well. Seeing how brave she is, is so very inspiring. after watching her father be killed by the one she loved and having to abandon the only life she knew in order to survive yona had to teach herself to cope or else she would die. obviously it is thanks to hak that she has even made it this far but she has done so much for herself as well. yona was raised to believe that weapons were evil and she was never to use one, but she taught herself how to use a bow and arrow so she could protect the ones she loved. she wanted to be useful and help hak since he has done so much for her. yona is so strong and sometimes i don't think she even knows it. one of my favorite things she has done was pose as a dancer so she could lure out some drug addicts. this is where she meets an lili who is being harrased by said drug addict. so yona kicks the creep right in the head

yona is so quick to act when it comes to protecting people... and she does it so gracefully as well. her love for others and her strength is one of the reasons why i admire her so much. if i was in her situation i do not think i would ever in a million years be able to handle myself the way she does. she has turned her sorrows into fuel to strengthen her on her mission to change her kingdom and make thinks better for the people. She is so humble and appreciates everything her friends have done for her. Her desire to protect the people she cares for and to give back to her friends who have done so much is another reason why yona is so unbelievably strong. She doesn't let her sheltered childhood stop her. She is so observant and can understand what people are feeling just by looking at them. She is so accepting as well and she able to win the heart of anyone she meets. She is so earnest and caring... yona truly is perfect.

yona makes me so very happy. When im sad her beautiful smile makes me smile. her happiness is so contagious and everything about her is so admirable. She is such an idol, a role model for me and i am so proud of how far she has come. despite dreading the ending of akayona i am looking forward to seeing if her dream will come true. i know she has the power to change things for everyone... i truly believe to thrown belongs to her (hand it over soo-won) she would be such an amazing queen. she is strong willed yet kind. she has seen what the people are suffering from and i know she will do everything in her power to make their lives better. #yonaforpresident2k20

now it is time to talk about her oh so important relationships.. starting with the most important, hak!

hakyona lives matter !! these two are childhood friends who often bicker with each other. yona considers hak to be someone very special to her and she relies on him greatly. when the two of them have to run away hak becomes the only person yona has left. she becomes greatly worried over him as he is often protecting her from getting hurt. This feeling caused yona to push herself to get stronger so she can also protect hak. despite being extremely observant of other people yona is completely oblivious to hak's romantic attempts. She often sees them as just him making fun of her but as of recently since she herself is starting to realize her romantic feelings towards him she is becoming a bit more perceptive. yona attempts to confess to hak but stops herself in fear of him making fun of her; however she finally kisses him in chapter 137. even though the two of them have made it very obvious they love each other they continue to run around in circles. Yona begins to worry that she is holding hak back and tells him it is okay for him to return home if he wants. hak being the big oaf he is gets gloomy because he thinks she means he is not needed anymore. so after yona clears up the misunderstanding telling hak he is very important to her, hak confesses his feelings in chapter 152. yelling "the one i like is you, damn it!!!" yona becomes very embarassed since she so clearly loves him back but hak is stupid and still thinks she doesn't return the same feelings as him. these two crackheads mean so so much to me. they make me wanna give heterosexuals rights. i do not have very many ships but they are easily my third favorite.

yona and lili love each other so fucking much y'all if hakyona wasn't a thing they would be girlfriends and you can not tell me otherwise. the two of them met when yona was disguised as a dancer. yona saved lili from a man who was harassing her and the two quickly became friends. yona had inspired lili to have more courage in herself and because of this lili used herself as bait in order to save yona. since the two of them became close yona and lili often confide in and comfort each other. one of their cutest moments was when a.) lili kissed yona's forehead before leaving yona to save her and b.) yona and lili talking about hak together. i really really love the relationship these two have... they really mean the world to me. <3

i will not talk about yona's current relationship with soo won because he has done something so terrible to her and i do not think he deserves to be forgiven. however at one point he was very important to her. when yona's mother died soo won was there for her and in my opinion he became a mother like figure to her when they were children, because of this yona grew to love soo won very much. later it was revealed though that his kindness towards hak and yona was only a lie. i believe he did genuinely care for the two of them but after his father died he could not forgive king il and turned bitter because of it.

yoon and yona are best friends!!!!! and you can not change my mind!!! despite being cruel to yona when they first meet due to the fact that yoon despises royalty yona forgives him. along her journey the two become very close and yoon teaches her many things. they both do their best to protect each other.. yona is willing to get hurt if it means keeping her friends safe. she loves yoon very much, their friendship is so very soft...

kija who also had a very sheltered childhood was spoiled just like yona. he is very fond of her and sometimes i think he confuses his will as a dragon for romantic feelings for her.. but lets not make things gross guys kija is 20 and yona is 16 please do not ship them romantically. anyways since kija is aware of his position as a dragon and he is a very formal person he considers himself to be her servant. yona on the other hand considers kija to be a very important friend to her and she cares about him very much. they protect each other and i love their friendship so much. (p.s. jaeki stays winning)

aside from human ao yona is pretty much the first person to ever show shin ah kindness. not only did he grow up believing his power was a curse but he also was never given a name. Yona showed him that his ability could be used to help people and gifted him the name shin ah. the two of them have a very close relationship and they care for and protect each other like the others. i really love shin ah's relationship with yona she has done so much for him and vice versa.

jaeha was running away from his fate at first so it was very hard for yona to get him to come with her. she eventually wins him over with her powerful charisma. like the other dragons jaeha is very protective of yona. he also like to flirt with her to make hak a little jealous.. it is very funny. yona who is oblivious to anything even related to flirting obviously just thinks jaeha is making fun of her. but itsokay because the two of them care about each other very very much. like the others yona welcomes zeno to the group with open arms and a beautiful smile. zeno being the literal ray of sunshine he is makes yona very happy and she cares for him very much. despite his power preventing him from dying yona does not like when he uses it because it hurts her to see him in pain. zeno is very protective of her and the other dragons.. he loves them very very much and i love zeno.

last but not least, the cutest member of yona's group.. ao !!! yona's designated squirrel friend who is so cute and so sweet to every one in the group. despite being a squirrel she is very smart and can tell when people are upset, so she will do her best to try and make them feel better. ao's attachment to shin ah and yona is so cute.. and so heart warming. When ever shin ah is not able to be with yona ao will watch over her for him and its just so cute. yona loves ao and her tiny pukyuus so much.
